LANGHE BY MOTORCYCLE - TWO-WHEELED ITINERARY BETWEEN LANGHE AND ROERO
LANGHE BY MOTORCYCLE - TWO-WHEELED ITINERARY BETWEEN LANGHE AND ROERO
Set a few kilometers from Milan, Turin and Genoa, the Langhe offer the motorcyclist a succession of enchanted landscapes. Villages, centuries-old castles, vineyards, cellars and farmhouses (true guardians of tradition) follow one another, tackling mixed routes on provincial and state roads with gentle slopes. The Langhe is a magical territory, made sublime by excellent food and wine products and its landscapes, where vineyards are treated like Italian gardens and with wavy geometries, gradually giving way to woods, hazelnut groves and pastures of the Alta Langa. The Langhe are a treasure trove of culture, the birthplace of writers and politicians who have been able to tell the essence of this land, their oenological and cultural tradition; places that have become UNESCO World Heritage sites since 2014 and of wines appreciated all over the world. Roadsitalia will go to discover the Langhe by motorbike, passing through the Roero through a possible motorcycle tour (the combinations are infinite ..) and arrive almost at the border with Liguria. 9 magical stages, included among the most beautiful motorcycle itineraries in Italy.

ITINERARY BETWEEN THE LANGHE: THE ROADSITALIA ROUTE
Our motorcycle tour in the Langhe starts from Vezza d’Alba, inhabited until the 1600s by the Roero family who resided in the castle on the hill where only its ruins remain today. This town - south of Asti - is immersed in the most traditional “roerino landscape”: vineyards, pointed hills, deep gorges, medieval fortresses and extreme slopes. To do absolutely here is a stop at the Didactic Tartufaia to discover and learn about the truffle, a structure known in the past also by some famous people such as Rossini and Alfred Hitchcock. Leaving Vezza d’Alba, we take the SR29 (and a short stretch of the A33) towards Roddi, visible from afar due to the fortress that winds its way up the hill of the village. The castle was owned by Gaius Francesco della Mirandola - descendant and grandson of the philosopher Pico della Mirandola - and certainly deserves a stop for its architecture and the panorama it offers over the valley.
Leaving the motorcycles parked, it is also interesting to discover the University of Truffle Dogs, founded in 1880 and made official in 1935. Back in the saddle, we face the SP358 with destination La Morra, another small village whose main square (Piazza Castello), offers another excellent spot to admire this land from above. Taking a short walk through the alleys of its center and the historic buildings, the Bell Tower and the Church of the Santissima Annunziata stand out. Continuing along the SP236, you can easily reach another small village, also typically medieval: Grinzane Cavour. Its name was changed in 1916 to pay homage to the statesman Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour, mayor for 17 years who first experimented with the production of what would become Barolo wine in his cellars. Even in Grinzane Cavour, the castle at the top is the absolute master. Located on the hill and surrounded by vineyards it can be visited together with the ethnographic museum, with the possibility of tasting delicious wines at the nearby Cavour Piedmontese Regional Enoteca.

You can stop here, perhaps taking advantage of the magnificent setting in the name of a total food and wine experience and total relaxation, or start again towards the second part of the journey, looking further east towards the Roero: towards Magliano Alfieri. Here too, the castle remains a common point of contact between all the villages over the centuries. Undoubtedly, one of the most characteristic and best preserved is located in Magliano Alfieri, which belonged to the homonymous family of the playwright Vittorio Alfieri. Built in the second half of the 1600s, it houses the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions and the Landscape Museum of Roero, Langa and Monferrato.

Another gem not to be missed is the panoramic point set up just outside the Church of San Andrea and near the castle, from where you can admire the wonderful surrounding area dominated by hills, vineyards and ancient strongholds. In these areas, Roero red wine, better known as Nebbiolo, is also produced. Our journey then takes us to Neive, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Perched on the top of a hill surrounded by vineyards, Neive is an ancient village with a typical medieval layout, stately palaces and houses with red roofs leaning against each other. From the top of the historic center you can enjoy a splendid view of the surrounding vineyards. You cannot miss the Palazzo del Comune, Palazzo Borgese (with its old cellars carved into the rock), a selfie - souvenir photo from the top of the historic center that offers a splendid view of the surrounding vineyards and a taste of typical wines: Barbaresco, Moscato , Dolcetto and Arneis. Our tour on the Langhe and Roero by motorbike is nearly at the end.
The next stops will be Treiso, Trezzo Tinella and Camerana respectively, following the SP 138, the 230 and then the SP 439 respectively. Treiso is famous for being the narrative scene of some of Beppe Fenoglio's stories, while Trezzo Tinella is a tiny village, at border between Langhe and Monferrato, which offers one of the most spectacular views of the entire journey by motorbike between the Langhe. These two villages, together with Benevello, are famous for the authenticity and goodness of the local gastronomy. The last town (but certainly not least) of the two-wheeled itinerary is Camerana, made up of several villages and located on the border with the Roero and Langhe area, along the ancient Via del Sale, the road that connected the Piedmontese hinterland to the Ligurian Riviera. In these parts, it is worth taking a walk in the Sorgenti del Belbo Nature Reserve, a place with a unique and uncontaminated charm.

USEFUL ADVICE ON THE ROUTE OF THE LANGHE
This itinerary in the Langhe by motorbike is designed for those who prefer quieter and more scenic roads, and usually like to make stops between one visit and another. The roads downstream are on average better maintained, while the "shortcuts" that cut the route are sometimes narrow and require more caution due to the high density of farms (therefore tractors, work vehicles, pastures, etc. .. in transit) . For the rest, nothing to say: roads that can be traveled 365 days a year immersed in the countryside and nature. And you? Have you ever traveled the Langhe and Roero with your motorbike?
