DOLOMITES BY MOTORCYCLE: A TOUR AMONG THE UNESCO BEAUTIES OF TRENTINO SOUTH TYROL
DOLOMITES BY MOTORCYCLE: A TOUR AMONG THE UNESCO BEAUTIES OF TRENTINO SOUTH TYROL
Every true self-respecting motorcyclist has heard of the Dolomite passes by motorbike. It is a kind of "initiation rite", an experience that every lover of two wheels must have at least once in their life. An itinerary immersed in the best Italian and natural alpine contexts of the world (Unesco World Heritage Site) and which knows how to enclose hairpin bends, high altitude climbs and descents, breathtaking views and a unique gastronomic experience. A journey - that of the Dolomites on a motorcycle - that delimits the boundary between a novice motorcyclist and an expert, actually graduating all users of him. The passes and peaks of the South Tyrolean Dolomites offer a multitude of itineraries on two wheels: it's hard to go wrong. This is due both to the disarming beauty of the nature that surrounds them, and to the density of things to see. Classic examples are Val Gardena, Lake Braies, Marmolada, Passo Sella, the Puez Odle Natural Park, just to name a few. The itinerary chosen by us at Roadsitalia is one of the many passable ones, within which we have tried to bring together landscapes to be immortalized, fun and driving experience. Obviously in a succession of curves and hairpin bends. Let's go and find out together.

DOLOMITES BY MOTORCYCLE: THE ROADSITALIA ROUTE
Our motorbike tour in the Dolomites starts from Canazei, a well-known tourist resort which is part of the Dolomiti Superski area. Taking the SS48 and SS242 in the direction of Passo Sella (2240 mt.), the first curves and climbs are immediately felt, opening the view to the rocky groups of the Sella (such as the Torri del Serra, the Passo Pordoi and the Città dei Sassi). After taking the usual photos, continue on SS242-3 to reach Passo Gardena. Here the road becomes a bit simpler than the beginning, being already in part over 2,000 meters in altitude. The mountain landscape of Passo Gardena opens up imposingly, surrounded to the south by the massif of the Sella Group, to the north by the peaks included in the Puez-Odle Natural Park and to the east by the enchantment of Val Badia with the legendary Kingdom of the Fanes.

From the immense charm of the Gardena Pass, this time we descend eastwards between hairpin bends and curves (always on the SS243) entering towards the Val Badia heading Corvara di Badia. This small town at about 1,500 meters above sea level is located along a sunny valley at the foot of Mount Sassongher, and is a popular tourist resort both in winter and in summer. Corvara di Badia marks - in some ways - the turning point of our motorcycle tour in the Dolomites, both from a landscape and a technical point of view. The steep climbs and mountain passes typical of Alto Adige Südtirol leave room for more homogeneous and extra-urban roads, but always immersed in the fantastic and magical Alpine Dolomite context. Missing destination Lake Braies, reachable through the SS244, passing through Brunico and San Vito.

Brunico is a pearl in the heart of Val Pusteria, where the Valli di Tures and Aurina (from the north) converge together with Val Badia from the south. The imposing Castle of Brunico will make you see the town from afar and deserves (if you have never been there) a stop. Crossing one of its imposing doors, you will find yourself in the middle of small shops, cafes, wine bars, gastronomic shops and renowned boutiques, scattered here and there among the narrow streets of the old village that converge on the long central street. On the other hand, Lake Braies - immersed in the naturalistic context of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park - is now unanimously considered the most beautiful lake in all the Dolomites. Its emerald green waters and the unspoiled nature that surround it make it a place as enchanted as it is magical, which attracts tourists from all over the world. It is located at just under 1500 meters above sea level and given its notoriety, several restrictions have been imposed in the high season peaks. So prepare yourself properly and find out if you would like to spend a few days in these parts.

USEFUL ADVICE ON THE DOLOMITES ROUTE BY MOTORCYCLE
An itinerary that definitely tests the ability of the biker and his motorcycle. Be careful when you choose to go, the season really makes a difference (icy roads, daylight hours, and passes that remain closed seasonally). Always carry with you a change of clothes and rain gear. In the high mountains, 10 minutes are really enough to reverse the situation from the weather point of view. The only point where to pay more attention is from Canazei to the Sella Pass, more “critical” for caution and traffic during the summer weekends. And you?
