Ducati Monster 696 796 and 1100: 3 versions of the iconic Italian bike
Are you a lover of sporty naked bikes? Do you like iconic motorbikes with timeless taste, faithful companions of adventures? Then, chances are, you too belong to the "Ducati club": Stay with us in this in-depth look and discover the features of one of the most popular Ducati bikes in the world: the Ducati Monster.
A bike that is history
The Ducati Monster has been produced in various engine capacities since 1993 and has become the absolute queen of the naked bike category, which, however, until the early 1990s, had not enjoyed much success. From that time until 2007, the famous Italian manufacturer churned out more than 150,000 examples. Let's discover in detail the characteristics of the three best-selling models, namely the Ducati Monster 696, 796 and 1100.
Ducati Monster 696
The engine of this Ducati is its beating heart. It is the Desmodue, a 696 cc (42.5 cu in) and 58.8 kW (78.9 hp) air-cooled L-twin with desmodromic valve actuation, 80 hp (58.8 kW) at 900 rpm and 69 Nn torque at 7750 rpm. The steel trellis frame has a lightweight aluminium sub-frame, giving it a claimed weight of 161 kilograms. In addition, this bike features a slipper clutch that prevents the rear wheel from locking by downshifting. And what about the comfortable seat height? We're talking 770 mm: this feature can be a real convenience especially for inexperienced riders, which, combined with the anti-lock braking system (ABS), guarantees stability and safety.
Ducati Monster 796
This 'intermediate' version in terms of engine capacity represents the right compromise between power, sportiness and style. The 796 is racy and also comfortable. And the reasons are obvious: the handlebar mounts are raised, making the riding position sportier and more comfortable. In addition, this motorbike model is the most popular choice, which is exactly halfway between the 696 and the super feisty 1100. Of course, the difference compared to the 696 is also evident in the engine's delivery, which is noticeably snappier and smoother, as well as brilliant in recovery with more torque. With a power output of 78 hp this Ducati reaches 200km/h. If you want better handling and a less rigid set-up this bike is for you.
Ducati Monster 1100
At only 169 kg the Monster 1100 is the lightest bike in its class. Super manoeuvrable and with an energetic torque of 103 Nm with a 2-valve engine it gives you great adventures and guaranteed fun. The Monster 1100 offers you a thrilling riding experience thanks to its powerful 1100 cc engine. With its 95 hp, this legendary air-cooled, twin-valve L-shaped Desmodromic engine guarantees an unmistakable Ducati tune. Its impressive torque gives you lightning-fast acceleration for unforgettable thrills. With a seat height of 810 mm and lightweight aluminium alloy wheels, the new Monster 1100 offers agility and ease of manoeuvre. The tubular steel trellis frame, derived from MotoGP, ensures stability and handling. The Brembo braking system ensures excellent braking thanks to radial pumps, four-piston callipers and generously sized discs. The Ducati dry clutch completes the bike's sporty package. Are you ready for the unique Monster 1100 experience?
